About Aquila
The Eagle. Altair is the brightest star and part of the Summer Triangle. Altair rotates so fast that it is noticeably oblate, flattened at its poles. Named after the eagle of Zeus in Greek mythology that carried thunderbolts. Aquila was the location of a famous nova in 389 BC recorded by Chinese astronomers. The Eta Aquilae is a Cepheid variable star used to measure cosmic distances.
