The Herdsman or Bear Driver. Arcturus is the brightest star in the northern celestial hemisphere and fourth brightest overall. Arcturus is an orange giant 36.7 light-years away and 170 times brighter than the Sun. The kite asterism outlines the herdsman. Bootes contains the Bootes Void, a spherical region 330 million light-years across with almost no galaxies, one of the largest known voids in the universe.
