About Canes Venatici
The Hunting Dogs, held on a leash by Bootes. Introduced by Johannes Hevelius in the late 1600s. Its brightest star Cor Caroli, Heart of Charles, honors King Charles I of England. The Whirlpool Galaxy M51 was the first galaxy in which spiral structure was seen, by Lord Rosse in 1845. Also contains the globular cluster M3 and the deep red carbon star Y Canum Venaticorum, nicknamed La Superba.
