About Coma Berenices

Berenices Hair. Named after Queen Berenice II of Egypt, who offered her hair to the gods for her husbands safe return from war. Formerly part of Leo, it became a separate constellation in the 1500s. Contains the north galactic pole. The Coma Cluster of galaxies is where Fritz Zwicky found the first evidence for dark matter in 1933. Also hosts the Black Eye Galaxy M64 and the Coma Star Cluster.
