Ophiuchus
About Ophiuchus
The Serpent Bearer, often linked to the healer Asclepius. One of Ptolemys 48 constellations. The ecliptic crosses it, so the Sun passes through Ophiuchus each year, though it is not one of the traditional zodiac signs. Kepler observed a supernova here in 1604, the last one seen in the Milky Way with the naked eye. Barnards Star, about six light-years away, has the largest proper motion of any star. Rich in globular clusters.
