The Hero who rescued Andromeda. Algol, the Demon Star, was the first recognized eclipsing binary. Algol dims every 2.87 days as a dim companion passes in front. The Perseid meteor shower peaks around August 12, one of the most reliable showers with up to 100 meteors per hour. The Double Cluster h and chi Persei contains over 300 blue-white supergiants. Perseus carries the head of Medusa, represented by the variable star Algol.
