About Scutum
The Shield. Introduced by Johannes Hevelius in 1684 as the Shield of Sobieski, honoring the Polish king John III Sobieski after his victory at the Battle of Vienna. The fifth smallest constellation. The Scutum Star Cloud is one of the brightest patches of the Milky Way. The Wild Duck Cluster M11 is one of the richest open clusters. UY Scuti is one of the largest known stars.
