About Columba

The Dove. Introduced by Petrus Plancius in 1592, often linked to the dove Noah released from the Ark. Lies south of Lepus and Orion. Its brightest star is Phact. Mu Columbae is a famous runaway star thought to have been ejected from the Orion region along with AE Aurigae about two and a half million years ago, the two now flying apart in opposite directions. Contains the globular cluster NGC 1851.
