Scorpius
About Scorpius
The Scorpion. Antares is a red supergiant so large that if placed at the Suns position it would engulf Mars. The name means rival of Mars due to its reddish color matching the planet. Scorpius X-1 was the first X-ray source discovered outside the solar system. The constellation closely resembles the shape of a scorpion with its distinctive curved tail and stinger. Visible best in July and August from southern latitudes.
